Excessive sugar intake causes narcotic dependence symptoms
2002 Princeton study showed rats fed an excessive sugar diet showed signs of withdrawal similar to seen in opiate users. Apparently, the sugar reacts with similar brain receptors to produce drug like euphoria. Link
